What she can’t remember…just might kill her.
Kate Holland has spent years hiding from the world—and herself. Now a small-town cop, she’s thrust into a nightmare when the mutilated body of a fellow veteran is dumped on a backroad.
Four years earlier, Kate spent eleven hours as a prisoner of war. Her Silver Star citation says she killed eleven terrorists to survive. But she has no memory of it. And now, chilling clues at the crime scene seem to connect directly to that forgotten day.
With her German Shepherd Ruger’s instincts leading her through the darkness, Kate works to unearth the truth. But as the body count rises and the past closes in, she must face why she ran from the Army—before she becomes the killer’s next victim.

🎬Hailed as "gripping and unforgettable", this series has been optioned by a Hollywood producer.
🔥 Written by a former US Navy Lt., this series is a real as it gets. There is a dog, but this is not a cozy mystery series. Cursing & gritty, graphic crime scenes abound throughout the Hidden Valor books. This series also contains a raw & honest portrayal of the themes of PTSD & suicide. If you like strong, female protagonists and seriously gritty, complex suspense that twists and turns all the way to The End, you'll love Candace Irving's Hidden Valor series.

Good read.
I liked the character, but I didn’t like some of the phrasing that became rather repetitive. The story was a little hard to follow at times but for the most kept me really interested and wanting to get to the end. Enjoyed it!
The Garbage Man Candace Irving
Former US Army detective Kate Holland spent years hiding from herself. Wounded in Afghanistan, one side of her face horribly scared. She was awarded a silver star for taken down eleven terrorists after the vehicle she and fellow soldiers were riding in ran over an IED. Kate has no memory of the deaths or the events that led up to them. Now a small town cop the past is catching up with her when the body of a fellow Army veteran is left on a backcountry road, in numerous bags and in severed pieces, the first of many bodies. Her initial list of suspects deteriorate as their bodies become part of the victims. The true killer is seeking revenge. Non stop action and suspense on every page!!! My highest recommendation!! Enjoyed immensely!!
Great read
Thoroughly enjoyed the story. It kept my attention throughout a 4 hour flight and a stormy afternoon. You do need to pay attention as not everything is spelled out but perfectly followable and riveting. Onward to the next book in the series!
