‘Kinetic Pointillism’ An Emerging Art Movement

Publisher Description

This book entered the Golden Book of World Record in 2023 and was named the winner in the Nonfiction – Art category of the 2025 Literary Global Book Awards, marking a significant milestone in the documentation of a contemporary art movement.

Kinetic Pointillism is an emerging art movement founded by Robert Ottesen, a renowned artist. Though its founder initially intended the movement for adult artists, it eventually became a passion for adolescents as well. According to Robert Ottesen, adults have been conditioned over many years to paint in certain predetermined ways. This is the first-ever book written on this remarkable art movement, and its purpose is to enlighten artists, art students, art critics, and art lovers around the world about this unique subject.

Prior to the invention of Kinetic Pointillism by Robert Ottesen, Pointillism was one of the world's most prominent art movements. Although the Pointillism movement was launched in 1886 by French artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, the technique was widely practiced by artists across many countries—most notably by Australia's Indigenous peoples. Popularly known as "dot art," this technique was used by Aboriginal artists, who typically employed limited colours, whereas artists of the Pointillism school used a wide range of multicolours.

The main purpose of writing this book is to introduce the Kinetic Pointillism movement to the world and to the artists who follow this technique. As Kinetic Pointillism is an evolved form of Pointillism, the author has dedicated the second chapter to explaining the origin and evolution of Pointillism, which ultimately led to the birth of Kinetic Pointillism. A separate chapter is devoted entirely to Robert Ottesen, the founder of this great movement. Through numerous initiatives, Robert Ottesen has worked tirelessly to present this movement to the world, and it is time his contributions are widely recognized. The book also includes images of artworks by artists who have adopted this distinctive style.

Pointillism has been a passion for the author since childhood. He consistently explored art books and, following the IT revolution, used search engines to deepen his understanding of the movement. His aim was not merely academic research, but to appreciate the unexplainable beauty of the Pointillist style. In addition to Robert Ottesen, modern Pointillism artists who have influenced the author include Kristen Pobatschnig, Siyavush Mammadov, Bogdan Cikarda, Nathalie Gribinski, Jennifer Bell, Norm Yip, Lee Asbell, and Arnold Bernstein. Although these artists may not strictly adhere to realism, the author has identified several characteristics of Pointillism or Kinetic Pointillism in their works, all of which successfully incorporate strong elements of this style.
