Publisher Description
In this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series, war-plagued Atlanta has never been so deadly...Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.
Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name. Plus, many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate.
So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. But it turns out that this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—fast, or the city and everyone dear to her may pay the ultimate price...
Customer Reviews
Five for five, this is still one of the best urban fantasy series out there
Kate Daniels is an action packed urban fantasy series with superb writing, great character development in a fantastically gritty, wonderfully detailed post-apocalyptic urban setting. In this fifth installment for the series, the stakes are even higher with potential apocalypse on the way. Many authors falter as soon as they put their protagonists together, but Andrews does an excellent job of portraying Kate and Curran as they attempt to settle into a relationship. The side stories of supporting characters are not brushed aside but rather are well-integrated into the larger story. We also get a nice bombshell of new information for Kate to ponder about her heritage and the promise of more things to come in the next two (hopefully more!) books.
Also be sure to check out Magic Gifts - a fun short by Andrews featuring Kate and Curran.
Atrocious Processing
Nothing to do with the content, the formatting of this ebook is shameful. The Prologue does not appear in the TOC, causing me to miss it when I started. The text is interspersed with "{Page#} ILONA ANDREWS" and there are numerous typos. I know its a cheap mass market escapist urban fantasy novel, but you would think that they would have put a little more effort into typesetting and formatting. At least they use em and en-dashes correctly. Im no expert, Im sure there are errors in this complaint, but Im not paid to do this either.
I haven't finished it yet. I've liked all the others, but wading through the lack of care in the packaging on this one is souring my experience.
Great fifth
Great fifth in the series. Not quite as good as 4, but still great. The end felt a tad lackluster but I like the setup for 6.
