Man and Wife

“Man and Wife” is very entangled novel that tells us stories of three people: Anne, Geoffrey and Arnold. Geoffrey is very selfish and ambitious is loved by Anne. He promised to marry her but he doesn’t want it because of his wish to be married a wealthier and better-connected woman. But Geoffrey has to arrange a meeting with Anne, in the character of his wife, and documents that in exchange of notes with her. But suddenly, he has to go and do some important business so he sends his friend Arnold to Anne in his place. 

So that happened that Arnold and Anne appeared to the landlady and a waiter as a man and a wife.

But the Scottish marriage law that time was so that if a pair told that they are married before witnesses they were regarded as married in law. And the problem is – Arnold and Geoffrey are legally married with Anne. So they are trying to resolve this problem because everybody has their own reasons to break this “marriage”.
