Night Walker

Kate, a middle school choral teacher, has escaped to San Diego to heal from the betrayal of her fiancé and encounters Calisto, founder of a charitable organization, after services at an old mission. As the story progresses a chance meeting draws them closer, further interactions push them apart, and when they finally give in to the attraction drastic measures could be taken against them. Lisa Kessler set my senses ablaze in Night Walker. The tragic past blending into the troubled present set the stage for a blazing future.

I loved the descriptions and and the story. I can’t wait for the second book.

This was the first book I’ve ever read from this author and it was a great one!
Calisto is a Night Walker who fell in love with a woman named Tala. But he was a missionary and their love was forbidden. He was betrayed and Tala was killed and he left the church.
Kate is the reincarnation of Tala. She’s had dreams/nightmares of being pursued and murdered all her life and doesn’t know what to make of it. When she goes home to San Diego after a breakup she meets Calisto and is immediately drawn to him.
The story moves quickly due to their blossoming relationship and a thrilling backstory about the monks that are after Calisto believing him to be evil. Jose, one of the monks, is sent to kill him and the contrast between the two are huge - who is really the evil one? A warning: there is a scene involving Jose and the woman that he uses to get into Calisto’s inner circle that is quite disturbing. To me it was well within Jose’s character to do this but it is a disturbing scene nonetheless.
Night Walker was a compelling book and one that has me very interested in the next one. The world that Lisa Kessler has created has a dark side but the love between Calisto and Kate is truly beautiful and I can’t wait to delve into the rest of that world.
