If 2018 was the realization of change with both my imaging and production workflow, 2019 was about cutting loose, embracing the fun of late night photography. Everything and anything was doable, focusing literally on the craft of capturing moments. The technical aspects of imaging on autopilot, smoothly running in the background. My confidence was growing more so, an invigorating infusion of self fueling nocturnal endeavors.
I should mention how interesting it was that my comfort wandering the New York City landscape in the middle of the night was evolving. Trepidation with who or what may be in the shadows was disappearing; being in the moment, striding forth and refusing to let the unknown dictate what will be was appreciated. Not that I was in fear doing what I do; it’s simply realizing if something’s going to happen, be ready, yet focus on what I’m trying to accomplish. Worrying to much about things beyond one’s control isn’t healthy and a big waste of time.
Whilst wandering the New York City landscape I realized it would be beneficial adding some imaging gear into the mix, expanding the creativity possibilities. Finally settled on acquiring the Pentax D FA 15-30mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR (a mouthful), a wide angle zoom powerhouse. Being able to expand the framing of scenes brought a needed jolt to my humble imaging arsenal.
An incredibly fun year roaming the nocturnal streets of New York City, it’s a pleasure sharing moments from the night.
