Great Follow Up Book
I like Jill Sorenson books. I like the adventure and action and especially the romances in Sorenson's books. I also appreciate that she generally sews up the loose ends of characters from other books and Off the Rails is one of these books. In this case we are revisiting secondary characters from Caught in the Act.
Ian is a truly stand up guy trying to save his own little patch of the world. Maria is a lovely young women just trying to survive and help her family survive.
Ian and Maria are first introduced to each due to a horrible occurrence years before the start of this book and go through many terrible trials in the book but still manage to maintain strength of character throughout the book. I felt both of the characters were realistically written and I felt like Sorenson did a great job of making the reader understand how both characters thought and why they reacted the ways they did in the book.
Also, the train ride itself is thought provoking - I had no idea that people actually choose to travel in such a dangerous and desperate way.
I would recommend this book, and any of Sorenson's books, to people who enjoy romance, suspense and adventure.
I received an ARC for my honest review.
Not for me
I have to confess that for the majority of this book I was in a state of confusion. Not sure if this story started in a previous book or what but I felt like I didn't have the backstory that would have made this one less confusing. I never really connected with these characters nor did I feel the connection between Maria and Ian either. Again the backstory might have helped but for me this story just didn't work.
