Oliver Sacks

This book presents a fascinating learning unit about the central nervous system, so that the student will understand its morphology and physiology through some neurological disorders. It is meant to be a homage to Dr. Oliver Sacks. It is aimed at 12th graders who are interested in Biology, Medicine and English. It includes texts both in English and Spanish and allows for interactivity with the teacher. Through its readings and learning activities, the reader will understand the anatomy of the brain, the basic functions of each major structure and will discover, through some of Dr. Sack’s clinical cases, the complexity of the human brain. The activities include dissecting a cow’s brain, the design of a brain cap to identify the hemispheres and cerebral lobes, and the identification of their main functions. 


El libro presenta una fascinante unidad de aprendizaje sobre el sistema nervioso central, cuya morfología y fisiología se conoce a partir de patologías neurológicas. Constituye un homenaje al Dr. Oliver Sacks. Está dirigida a alumnos de tercero de bachillerato (12° grado) en las áreas de biología, medicina e inglés y permite interactividad con el docente. Incluye textos en inglés y español. A partir de sus contenidos y actividades de aprendizaje propuestas, el lector podrá comprender los fundamentos de anatomía del cerebro humano, las funciones asociadas a cada estructura cerebral y descubrirá, a partir de casos clínicos del Dr. Sacks, la complejidad del funcionamiento del cerebro. Las actividades incluyen la disección de un cerebro de res, el diseño de una gorra donde se detallan los hemisferios y lóbulos cerebrales, y la identificación de las principales funciones asociadas a cada uno de ellos.
