Publisher Description
Olivia wants the 80 acres in far off Michigan that her father left to whichever of his offspring might choose to stake a claim to that land. As Olivia says, "I am sprung off him just as much as Avis or Tobey."
The problem: she is seventeen, female, and it is 1841.
Strong-willed, vulnerable, and compassionate, Olivia is a compelling protagonist on a journey to find a way to do the right thing in a world in which so much is wrong.

Olivia
Slow, descriptive start but exciting middle and great cliffhanger ending.
Olivia Mourning
I read a lot of novels, and I like all kinds of novels, even romance.. but I find this novel the way it’s written I can hardly wait to get back to it or put it down.. this book has the race card involved.. the black-and-white issue… specially, the time. Even before the Civil War, the novel starts out at… I wish I wrote it.. my hat off to the writer, I would love to talk to this person the writer, the author.. but I had a doubt the author writer will ever look at this, but if you do.. find a way to communicate.

Yael Politis is an excellent writer. Her characters in this book are so well developed that you feel as if you know them and are participating in their adventures and misadventures The historical details help give insight to the lives of people living in the 1800s. Although most of us would hate to live through the trials of forging new lives in the western frontier of rural Michigan, her colorful descriptions paint the beautiful landscape of the times.
