A popular college kid forms a unique bond with a loner at the end of the hall and his strange collection of insects.
from otherwise:
“That night Hooper could not sleep. First he awoke to cramped legs. He sat up in the dark and tried to smooth and pound out the pain by hitting his legs with his fists but when he laid back down and tried to sleep, the cramps returned, so he decided to sit up and not do anything, until they went away. From outside the building he heard a sound like creaking metal. It was monotonous and loud, something he had not heard before. It was coming from the large hall window outside his room. He got out of bed and went to the window and looked out. High on the roof of the building was a large aluminum antenna with a dozen wiry arms, swaying and shuddering in the wind. It made a strange sound, like a moan. The back of the hall faced a pitch of woods that sloped down to a rivulet at bottom and came up the other side and opened onto athletic fields and farther on the football stadium. On game nights the lights from the stadium crept over the fringe of treetops, and down below troops of students summoned by the lights and the boombox clamor and crowd and spectacle could be seen mushing through the woods, taking shortcuts to the other side. That night there was nothing but the dark woods and the sound of the antenna.
As Hooper looked out, the hallway light flicked on briefly, blindingly, and he turned around squinting to see who it was
“Who’s that?” the voice said, coming down the hall. It was Ty.
