Pandemonium ensues when a headstrong teen contends with a carnival conman.
from Strongman:
“Mitch and his girlfriend started in one corner of the carnival and walked along the border. They passed dozens of games and amusements, but did not play any because there was one game Mitch was holding out for. As they turned the second corner past the lion tent he finally saw it, standing in the very back corner. It was the hammer game. Officially it was called The Strongman. It was a tower with a bell on top, and you swung the hammer so that the needle reached the top and rang the bell to win a prize. He had won the game every year since he was in high school, and every year he looked forward to it. However, as they approached the game Mitch grew stiff and quiet and his countenance fell.
What is it? Claire said. You got quiet all the sudden.
Mitch pointed ahead.
Look, he said. Look who it is.”
