Bless me, fatha, this is a good one
Father Terry Dunn returns to Detroit from his church in Rawanda to raise money for starving orphans in Africa. Will he make the rounds to the churches, showing off his photos of little black kids, and raise a few bucks? Or will he go for some substantially more attractive Detroit gangster bucks?
The latter proves riskier but more rewarding, and much more entertaining.
Most of the main characters in Pagan Babies aren't quite what they seem to be in the beginning. The seemingly staid and upstanding turn out to be people with a twinkle in the eye and a clever plan to turn someone else's fortune into their own. Helping them along is a likable moron or two.
One of Elmore Leonard's best and most unusual books.
