Publisher Description
NYPD Detective Michael Bennett will stop at nothing to protect family: his wife, his kids—and his fellow officers—in the latest psychological thriller from bestselling author James Patterson.
At every death scene, Bennett says a prayer over the victim.
But recently, too many of the departed have been fellow cops.
“I want you to look at these deaths on special assignment,” NYPD Inspector Celeste Cantor says. “Report only to me.”
Bennett excels as a solo investigator. But he's chasing a killer who feeds on isolation... and paranoia.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Dogged New York City detective Michael Bennett returns in another fast-paced procedural thriller from James Patterson and James O. Born. Cop killers are an unfortunate fact of life for the NYPD, but now a determined serial killer seems to be targeting retired officers from one particular unit. Tasked with figuring out the killer and their motives on the down low, Bennett launches himself into an investigation that takes some extremely gripping, unsettling, and morally gray turns. Meanwhile, on the home front, Mary Catherine’s high-risk pregnancy has her on enforced bed rest, so the always-chaotic Bennett kids have taken over all the household duties—including Ricky, who’s amusingly preoccupied with an audition for a teen cooking competition. Written in brisk, short chapters balancing multiple plotlines (including Bennett’s fan-favorite partner Rob Trilling, who’s neck-deep his own international-drug-cartel case), Paranoia rattles right along, building the tension right up to the last page.
