Publisher Description

As Negotiations Stall, What Is Left for Palestinians? When Barack Obama became president in January 2009, there was a newfound hope in the Middle East that America would break from the previous policies of President George W. Bush, and usher in a new era of respectful diplomacy with the Arab and Muslim worlds. Indeed, Obama's speech in Cairo in June last year showed that the new administration cared about the plight of the Palestinian people, and recognized as legitimate their wish for a homeland to call their own. Obama immediately attacked the problem, appointing U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell. More than a year later no tangible progress has been made, and the Obama administration is losing credibility among both Israelis and Palestinians but for different reason.
