"One of the year's most delightful rom-coms."—New York Times bestselling author Julia London on The Dachshund Wears Prada
The perfect romcom for dog lovers! Pets of Park Avenue is the story of a self-confessed hot mess who learns that life is more fun when things don't go according to plan.
What do you do when The One is also the one who broke your heart?
Self-proclaimed hot mess Scout Myers is determined to prove she’s finally got her act together. Raised by grandparents who saw her as her wayward mother’s wayward daughter, Scout’s used to being written off. So when the opportunity for a promotion arises at Paws in the City, the talent agency where she works, Scout is desperate to rise to the occasion. With shared custody of her little sister also on the line, Scout can’t afford a single mistake…like suddenly needing a canine stand-in for an important photoshoot. Luckily (or not) she knows the owner of the perfect pup replacement: the estranged husband she walked out on years ago.
On the surface, it appears Lane Halliday’s life has been blissfully drama free without Scout, but she suspects her handsome-as-ever not-quite-ex-husband doth protest too much. Working together even feels like old times—except for all that lingering, unresolved tension. But Scout’s not sure she’s ready to confront the reasons she left Lane, and when their plans to finalize the divorce become very real, Scout starts to wonder whether second chances might be worth a little hot mess.
Paws in the City
Book 1 - The Dachshund Wears Prada
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
First comes marriage, then comes love in London's sparkling second Paws in the City romance (after The Dachshund Wears Prada). Chaotic and impulsive Scout Myers has never felt accepted by her family, but she has a support system in her bestie and boss, Isla, the founder of the animal talent agency that gives the series its title. After an unfortunate incident leaves its top dog out of commission, the agency needs a stand-in, and Scout knows a pooch that fits the bill. There's just one problem: the owner is Scout's husband, Lane Halliday. The pair met and married in Vegas five years before the start of the book—and they haven't spoken in almost as long. After a month of trying to make their relationship work, Scout was convinced that Lane—who refused to introduce her to family and friends—was as ashamed of her as her own family had always been and she left without a word. Workaholic tech executive Lane knows he made mistakes, but Scout's abandonment still hurts. When the doggie dilemma reunites them, it's their chance to reconcile. London pairs their satisfying romance with a deep dive into dysfunctional family dynamics, the corrosive power of secrets, and the importance of communication. This is sure to win hearts.

Surprising Sequel
“Pets Of Park Avenue” is the SECOND book (which I didn’t realize!) of London’s “Paws In the City” series. Please don’t let this deter you! This book easily stands on its own, and I had no problem grasping the bits of backstory to fully understand POPA. London adds the right amount of anecdotes to bring a new reader up to speed without being overly wordy.
I found POPA to be a charming read that hits the right amount of sass, tough moments, and tenderness. It was easy to see and understand why Scout felt and thought the way she did, and I loved seeing that it was with the love and support of people she had chosen to bring into her life (her best friend Isla, new friend August, and estranged husband Lane) that she was able to find her way. You really feel for both Scout and Lane in this dual-POV writing style.
I truly enjoyed this book, so much so that as soon as I finished reading, I immediately jumped to buy the ebook of “The Dachshund Wears Prada.”
Fun and cute
Four and a Half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒
Pets of Park Avenue by Stefanie London is the second book in her Paws in the City series that features both pets, and New York City. This can be read as a stand-alone.
Story Recap:
Scout Myers is a self-proclaimed hot mess and works for her best friend at a pet-influencing company. When Scout messes up a photo shoot of a Bichon Frise, the only way to get out of the mess is to borrow her husband's dog, an exact doppelganger for the dog she accidentally dyed pink. The only problem? She hasn’t talked to her husband in over five years after she walked out on him.
My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this second-chance romance very much. The fact that Scout and her husband were still married, but hadn’t talked to each other in five years was a bit of a stretch for me, but I just went with it and I’m so glad I did! I found their emotional reunion very powerful and loved watching them fall in love again.
Scout is a very relatable character, and I just wanted her to succeed so much. She claims she’s a hot mess, but she is very intuitive and great with people. She’s very conscientious and hardworking and I love that in a heroine. Lane, her husband, is adorable and I love the way he cares for his family, and still has strong feelings for Scout. Any man who loves an adorable Bichon Frise is a good man.
I also enjoyed seeing the characters from the last book again. And I love the New York City setting. I loved the dog aptly named Twinkle Stardust, who had a big part in trying to get her “parents” back together.
Recommendation:
I highly recommend Pets of Park Avenue to anyone who enjoys romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A Love Rediscovered
I loved this second installment in the “Paws in the City” series by Stefanie London. Scout made a few appearances in the first book and I was hoping she would get her own happy-ever-after. Scout has a history of being a bit of a mess and despite all the hard work she’s done she still see’s herself as a screwup. Meanwhile, there is Lane. Lane is a big success in the tech world, but his love life is a different matter. It seems Scout and Lane have a bit of history and when Scout calls on Lane to help her out of a jam they are forced back together. The two of them are different people now, but they both still feel the inexplicable draw they led them to a hasty marriage in Vegas years ago. I really enjoyed watching as Scout and Lane both opened up and got to know one another in a way they hadn’t the first time around. Both had issues to deal with and things they felt they had to prove. The first time they were together those issues tore them apart. But this time both are willing to be kinder to each other and to themselves. It was nice to see how both of them grew and allowed themselves to love again. And it wouldn’t be a “Paws in the City” book if there weren’t a bit of mischief and mayhem from an adorable dog, this time the hilariously named Twinkle Stardust. This was such a wonderful book, with lots of laughter and tears and sexy, swoony moments. I highly recommend it.
