Publisher Description
In Sin City, the stakes are high. Bet big and you may win it all—but you could also lose far more than you bargained for.
Indie Garrison is in over her head. Ditched by her husband in the dead of night, she’s suddenly a broke single mom living with her sister. Sure, she and pro hockey player Pike Morgan got off on the wrong foot in a big way, and admittedly, it was entirely her fault. But Indie’s been fooled by a man for the last time, and no matter how hard Pike tries to break down her walls, she’s not falling for him. At least, that’s what she keeps telling herself.
Pike Morgan is at the top of his game. Being drafted by the new Las Vegas expansion team was ideal for the bearded, blue-eyed NHL goalie who’s only serious about two things: hockey and partying. When he accepts a bet from a teammate, he finds himself wooing a spirited woman who wants nothing to do with him. Once he gets to know her and her young son, though, he regrets his wager. If Indie finds out the truth, she’s going to hate the player and the game.

I Like Pike!
When an author has shown that they excel at writing a certain kind of book, there's a comfort in knowing that you're going to be satisfied whenever you pick up one of their books. I feel that way about author Brenda Rothert. My first of her books was set in the hockey world, and while she's written outside of the genre of sports romance and done it well, she has continued to write sports romances that are enjoyable and memorable.
PIKE is the second book in Brenda's Sin City Saints series, a sort of spinoff of her Chicago Blaze series. Still hockey players, and still so very enjoyable. I have to admit, though, on first meeting, I was wholly expecting to really dislike Pike Morgan. Stereotypical sports figure, excelling on the ice, but sort of a pig offsides. He is like the rockstar of a hockey team, working hard, playing harder and to excess.
Enter Indie Garrison. Straight out of a situation that I wouldn't wish on anyone, she's picking up the pieces and trying to make a new life for her and her son. Worlds away from the life of someone like Pike, and not at all interested in seeing what he has to offer.
There's plenty going on behind the scenes, and I won't spoil it, but I will say that Brenda does a lovely job of letting Pike redeem himself, and return to the guy that I suspect was there all along. He is well aware of his mistakes and shortcomings, and makes a real effort to right the wrongs that he's done. And Indie, well, as she flourishes and grows, she's one of the main reasons, and her journey is just as heartwarming as his.
PIKE is a solid 4-star read for me, and a definite recommendation for Brenda's fans, and fans of hockey romance, redemption, and second chances. Get started with MAVERICK (Book 1) and read both books in the series. You'll be glad that you did. ❤️
I love tatted swoon worthy man
This is the second book in the series, and I do love her hockey books. We’ve got Pike, who goes from hot tattooed guy trying to win a bet to swoony lovable guy trying to win her. You can’t help but fall for him. Or Indie, tough single mom, trying to make a new life for her and her adorable son Nolan. Life isn’t always easy, but sometimes you meet the right people to make it better. I can’t wait for the next one!
