Publisher Description
The world could do with a little more kindness and positivity and random acts of singing, don’t you think?
Dear Reader, My name is Penelope, and while I may not be a real-life princess, I’ve been told I possess a certain fairy-tale heroine quality. I wield optimism as my weapon of choice, don amazing shoes and vintage hats whenever possible, and speak in musical references. All of which perfectly qualifies me to succeed in my new role as a marketing intern at the historic Darling House theater on the island of Skymar.
Only . . . it seems this internship position is going to be a LOT bigger than I thought. The Gray family, who owns the theater, has been stuck in a rut of darkness ever since the loss of their matriarchs. Now all that’s left is a dying theater, a reclusive grandfather, three siblings, and an adorable seven-year-old girl who desperately needs some pixie-dust magic.
So that’s what this story is about. My plans to save the theater! (Plans that, somehow, keep being stolen by a local competitor.) And an anonymous online theater troupe. And two single brothers who may be vying for this American girl’s heart . . . until they’re not (or maybe they just want me for my ideas too). And a dream job offer that will require me to make a truly heart-wrenching decision. I may not excel at finishing stories, but I promise to see this one through to its happily ever after.
Positively,
Penelope

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Basham (Authentically Izzy) spins a heartwarming tale of second chances with a positive-thinking heroine at its center. American Penelope Edgewood is fresh out of college when she begins a three-month marketing internship at Darling House, the oldest theater on the small island of Skymar (think: Scottish isles). She's been tasked with brainstorming marketing ideas to help revive the struggling business and keep its proprietors, the Gray family, from having to sell. Once in Skymar, Penelope meets straitlaced businessman Matt Gray, whom she nicknames Grumpy Gray, and his younger brother Alec. The family has been emotionally shattered by the deaths of the brothers' mother and grandmother within the past five years, and Matt's still recovering after his ex-wife left him a single father two years back. Matt and Penelope initially clash, but by harnessing her faith and upbeat attitude, she helps him navigate his grief and rediscover his love for dancing. An unlikely relationship blossoms between the two as they work together to save the theater. While Penelope's relentless optimism sometimes reads as unrealistic, readers will be cheered by Basham's quirky, likable characters and their ability to find humor and hope amid life's trials. It's a wholesome and winning happily-ever-after.
Customer Reviews
Another fun romp with the Edgewood siblings!!
I really love this book much more than I thought I would. I thought surely book 2 couldn’t be as special as Authentically Izzy (AI). I was wrong…simply because, again, Pepper writes from the heart. Penelope is so much more than the character we see in AI!
So...what Athentically Izzy is to the love of literature, Positively Penelope is to the art of theater. Penelope is a joy, the brothers are swoons and the additional characters from AI, along with those introduced in Penelope’s story, are so fun to get to know.
Themes woven within this storyline pointed to gaining back a sense of family and tradition after great loss and betrayal along with bringing out the best in those we love. I so enjoyed how Basham worked her magic with this artsy couple! I really want Penelope to have her Cinderella story with a Sound of Music twist! ❤️
Here are a few quotes I love that I thought really spoke to these characters without giving plots away…
“I can safely say I’ve never heard the word swoon used so frequently in one sentence in my life.”
“He could only offer her his heart, and a broken, fumbling one it was.”
“…as everyone knew, baked goods could solve almost every first-world problem. Almost.”
Happy Reading!
