Howls in the Dark

For half-elven Pathfinder Varian Jeggare and his devil-blooded bodyguard Radovan, things are rarely as they seem. Yet not even the notorious crime-solving duo is prepared for what they find when a search for a missing Pathfinder takes them into the gothic and mist-shrouded mountains of Ustalav. Beset on all sides by noble intrigue, mysterious locals, and the deadly creatures of the night, Varian and Radovan must use both sword and spell to track the strange rumors to their source and uncover a secret of unimaginable proportions, aided in their quest by a pack of sinister werewolves and a mysterious mute priestess. But it'll take more than merely solving the mystery to finish this job. For shadowy figures have taken note of the pair's investigations, and the forces of darkness are set on making sure neither man gets out of Ustalav alive...

From fan-favorite author Dave Gross comes a new fantastical mystery set in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Slow starter

At first Prince of Wolves starts off slow and is somewhat confusing. The chapters switch back and forth between the two main characters. At first it is slightly confusing, but once the reader gets past the way the author chose to write the book it becomes a fast read. Once the book picks up pace there is much for the reader to guess at as the pair of unlikely adventurers plow through foreign lands with odd customs trying to solve a mystery.

One part That could have used work was the author could have made it more clear why the adventurers are in a foreign land and who they are searching for. In fact that was a big reason why the beginning was so confusing!

All in all the book was well written in a unique form. The two main characters are noticeably different from one another and their separate mannerisms let the reader know the versatlity of the author

Surprisingly, very good!

This book was very different from what I was expecting. Unlike a lot of books in this genre, Prince of Wolves takes a thoughtful approach, building the characters and the story in an intelligent way.
I am looking forward to more from Dave Gross!
