Publisher Description
From acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Madeline Hunter comes a dazzling tale of untamed passion, the first in a delicious quartet of regency romances…
Armed with her cousin’s gun, Audrianna travels to an inn in Brighton to confront the mysterious “Domino”, a man who claims to have information that could clear her deceased father’s once good name. But the handsome man of commanding sensuality who shows up is not the Domino at all, but Lord Sebastian Sommerhays—one of her father’s persecutors. And when the gun accidentally fires, the secretive situation suddenly becomes mortifyingly public...
There is only one way out of the scandal that erupts, and so these two passionate and headstrong adversaries find themselves joined in a marriage of necessity. Expecting a practical alliance, Audrianna quickly discovers she is helpless to resist Sebastian’s seductive persuasions as he teaches her the meaning of desire. But she remains determined to exonerate her father, even if it means risking her life, her marriage—and her heart.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The latest from veteran Regency romance writer Hunter (Provocative in Pearls) begins a new series with the brave Audrianna Kelmsleigh who, while attempting to exonerate her father's death, ends up drawn to one of his persecutors, handsome Lord Sebastian Summerhays, after they're both lured to a Brighton inn by the same mysterious advertisement. When Audrianna momentarily lets down her guard for a kiss with Lord Sebastian, a mysterious figure known as Domino appears; after shots are fired, the escalating controversy further threatens Audrianna's family's name. Hunt pays little attention to period custom and language, apparently more concerned with future storylines-taking special care to introduce Audriana's three beautiful friends and Summerhays's matching trio (an injured brother and two handsome friends). It should be no surprise, then, that the novel is most enjoyable in its leads' moments of passion.
Customer Reviews
Really well written, mysterious and sexy
Wow. I hardly ever give five full stars. Especially lately with the annoying lack of basic editing.
I loved the characters who all had numerous and believable troubles that made them more human.
The descriptions of settings are perfect. Just enough to imagine it without rolling my eyes and skipping down the paragraph over tedious details that aren't relevant to the story.
The suspense is meted out nicely throughout the story. I suspected the final outcome, but did not know for sure. I love a good mystery as much as a romance.
Sex scenes are classy in my opinion. Just hot enough without being gross. The love grows slowly starting with dislike turning to admiration etc. no insta-love.
I'm off to buy the next book in the series. Already have the last book from a sale. So I'm reading the series before I read the last book.
Highly recommend this book
