Publisher Description
Fighting against circumstances can usher in the greatest freedom.
Peter Sammerson, Viscount Bingham, is a man tortured by his past. No matter that he wishes the beau monde would forget what he's done, he can't, and for that there's no peace, and definitely no future. During a walk to a friend's townhouse, he has a heated exchange in the rain with an interesting woman who might change his mind about wanting to avoid the ton altogether.
Miss Katherine Davies is in London to attend her sister's wedding. Confined to a Bath chair due to an accident that left her lower half paralyzed, she still has her independence. A chance encounter with one of London's most scandalous rakes leaves her incensed, but the secrets in his eyes intrigues her and makes her wonder. Yet England's upper crust demands nothing less than perfection, and she is most certainly not.
Despite the chaos from their initial meeting, Peter recognizes a kindred spirit, but he's terrified that when she hears of his terrible past, she'll hate him. While Kate begins to learn about the broken man, her emotions are engaged, yet does he view her as a whole woman? Acceptance, heat, and friendship springs between them, and if fate is kind, two rejects from society might find something more valuable than either of them had ever hoped for.

Broken
Kate is broken by an injury to her spinal cord and society’s view that she is imperfect now, no longer suitable for marriage. Peter is broken with guilt over the dark choices he made for a man that controlled his fortune and his sister that ruined him and society’s view of him. I loved that he found a way to dance with her in her wheel chair. I thought she was much too harsh when they first met and he helped maneuver her chair in the rain and then carried her inside. Their romance progressed quickly over the course of a few days.
Heartwarming Romance
Sandra Sookoo’s “Redeeming a Tarnished Lord” is a heartwarming tie-in novella to the Thieves of the Ton series.
Peter Sammerson, Viscount Bingham a good man trying to live down a colorful past mistake and Miss Katherine Davies is trying to live with a disability/spinal cord injury that has rendered her wheelchair bound and less than desirable to the ton, forcing her to build walls of protection. Two people who clearly need one another. The attraction is there but can they find acceptance of one another?
This is a wonderful second chance story of two tortured souls who want to be see for who they truly are. One who must forgive himself for past mistakes and one who seeks to be seen as she truly is and not looked upon as useless. Great character development, good dialogue and imagery. This is a beautiful love story of forgiveness, acceptance, romance and love. I was so touched by this heartwarming, engaging story. I think the author handles Katherine’s emotions and acceptance of her disability beautifully. People do tend to see you differently in Katherine’s situation no matter how hard you try or how far you come and the emotional fallout from that on top of trying to recover as best you can and learn to live with the injury is difficult enough. Katherine was strong and determined to maintain some sense of independence. She was so admirable! Peter was caught up in circumstances he didn’t or couldn’t control. I found it too, admirable that he felt guilt and remorse for his actions. I was so taken with sadness and joy over the plights of these two characters that it warmed my heart to see them reach their happily ever after. A beautiful story, beautifully written with fitting dialogue and imagery. The emotions were so well translated to the page I’m in awe of the author. I have come to love this author’s skillful story telling.
Thank you so much Ms. Sookoo for this wonder filled story of love, romance, forgiveness and acceptance.
Not really redeemed
Peter was the absolute desolute rake who hosted orgies. He had a come to Jesus moment eight months ago after he was shot. He really needed to atone a whole lot more and take a whole lot longer to redeem himself. I never felt like he actually redeemed himself. Feeling bad at the very beginning wasn’t enough. Also, he probably had syphillis.
I did like Katherine, an American in a wheelchair. She was irate at him and rightly so.
