Ugh! It’s over?! But, I still want more. This author’s built an awesome (yet simple) steampunk-style universe with absolutely incredible characters. If you stumble upon this book, please start from the beginning of this series. I typically like future sci-fi and space-faring, but even set in simpler times the characters and plot(s) had simply captured my attention. I could read 10 more books like these. Thank you!

This book had a lot more depth than the rest of the series, though it could still use some proofreading. It’s kind of sad that Akstyr had less presence than Books, who’s dead, and highlights the fact that importing a trained practitioner would’ve saved everyone a lot if trouble.

Some oddities included a strange amount of importance placed on retrieving Deret’s cane, the convenient acquisition of self-contained suits for the submarine, Mahliki somehow surviving a sledgehammer to the head and being able to fight shortly after.

Vocab list this time: edification instead of improvement, rictus instead of grimace, connubial instead of conjugal, adroit instead of skillful, verdurous instead of verdant, insensate instead of inanimate, proboscis instead of snout, malaise instead of unhappiness, chaff instead of banter, adventitious instead of random.

I'm truly sorry to see the series go. I've burned through all in too short of time.
But a very nice finish says it all!
