APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Danger and adventure loom large in book four of Christine Warren's Gargoyle series. Computer hacker Kylie Kramer is looking for answers surrounding a friend's mysterious death when she finds herself drawn into a dark world of demons and monsters. Dag—a centuries-old gargoyle who can shift into a sexy human form—appoints himself Kylie's protector as they fight an ancient evil. Brimming with action, sensuality, and humor, Rocked by Love is a must-read for fans of paranormal romance.
Warren's fourth Gargoyles novel (after Hard as a Rock), set in Boston, is a fervent tale of danger, geeky magic, and sexy sizzle, as an independent heroine and snarly hero tangle in love and war. Startled and confused by their first encounter, Kylie Kramer and Dag's relationship is off to a rocky start. Smart-witted and sassy, hacker extraordinaire Kylie does not appreciate Dag's domineering grumpy manner. She's curious, however, as she recognizes some of his words from her investigation into her best friend Bran's baffling death. Dag, a Guardian only brought to life when humanity is in danger, demands answers, especially why Kylie smells of magic. A call to Bran's sister, Wynn, Warden to her own Guardian, explains the dire situation regarding the escalating attacks by the Darkness, and Kylie must use her magical cyber skills to get information on the Darkness's upcoming plans. Fans will enjoy seeing favorite couples and how the series plot is moving along, as well as the modern use of hacking in a good-versus-evil scenario.
Stone cold boring
I'm a fast reader and this took me weeks to read, not because it was difficult but because it was absolutely boring. The author followed a recipe - snarky female, grumpy male, hilarity ensues...or does it? It was trite and tired and not a bit funny. Predictable action and dialogue. The "big event" was just stupid and the main female made it worse by the dumbest unnecessary (wait, maybe it was to fill out the ending so it wasn't so rushed - either way still awful) dull inner monologue since another boring author went on and on about an "inner goddess". Most books make me eager to read them and find out what happened, in this book I couldn't be bothered to care nor was I eager to find out. I forced myself to finish because I'm not a quitter, but there were a lot of skipped sentences and mental "blah-blah-blahs" to make it to the end.
