The annual Star-Spangled Rodeo in Lake Falls, Texas, is supposed to be a Fourth of July celebration, but this year, the bad luck is deadly. First, the cash box goes missing, and then a prized bull is kidnapped. In his place is a chilling ransom note with an impossible midnight deadline.

Seventeen-year-old twin sisters Lizzie and Samantha Brown are drawn into the mystery out of necessity. Lizzie, who is managing the Twin Bluebonnet Ranch rodeo booth for the first time, can't let the bull's disappearance tarnish her debut. Samantha, a champion barrel racer, knows the rodeo scene like the back of her hand. Together they interview a disgruntled rodeo clown, a sketchy used car salesman, and a mysterious out-of-towner, but the web of suspects keeps growing.

With time running out, the twins begin to realize the bull's kidnapping might be a smokescreen for something even more sinister—something that could threaten the entire town.
