Publisher Description
USA TODAY bestselling author Rachel Reid's next Game Changers hockey romance sees a grumpy professional hockey player meet his match in an out-and-proud social media manager…
The hits just keep coming for Troy Barrett. Traded to the worst team in the league would be bad enough, but coming on the heels of a messy breakup and a recent scandal… Troy just wants to play hockey and be left alone. He definitely doesn’t want to “work on his online presence” with the team’s peppy social media manager.
Harris Drover can tell standoffish Troy isn’t happy about the trade, but Harris doesn’t give up on people easily. Even when he’s developing a crush he’s sure is one-sided. And when he sees Troy’s smile finally crack through his grumpy exterior… That’s a man Harris couldn’t turn his back on if he wanted to.
Suddenly, Troy’s move to the new team feels like an opportunity—for Troy to embrace his true self, and for both men to explore their growing attraction. But being together behind closed doors is one thing, and for Troy, being in a public relationship with Harris will mean facing off with his fears, once and for all.
Need more Reid? Don't miss The Shots You Take—a sweet and sexy hockey romance about two ex-best friends with benefits who are about to discover whether you can ever really have a second chance. Coming March 4, 2025!

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Reid keeps on scoring in her fifth hockey-themed Game Changers romance (after Common Goal), which kicks off as closeted Troy Barrett is traded to the Ottawa Centaurs. Troy is still reeling after confronting Dallas Kent, his former teammate and ex-best friend, over accusations that Dallas is a sexual predator. He's also reevaluating the homophobic persona and bad behavior their friendship brought out in him. Troy is initially ill-at-ease in Ottawa, but he has an ally in the team's captain, series regular (and Reid's charming secret weapon) Ilya Rozanov. He also soon develops a crush on the team's out and proud social media manager, Harris Drover. As Troy spends time with Harris, driving around looking at Christmas lights, the men silently acknowledge their attraction. But it takes a near-death experience for them give in to their passions. Obstacles to their happy ending come in subplots about Harris's heart condition and Troy's homophobic father, though these threads go slightly underdeveloped. Instead, it's Troy's need to figure out how to live authentically as an openly gay athlete that drives this gratifying coming-out story. Series fans will feel right at home.
