Publisher Description
Passion, wealth, and murder come together in this unputdownable thriller from the New York Times bestselling “queen of romantic suspense” (Booklist) Linda Howard.
Roanna Davenport grew up a wealthy orphan on her grandmother’s magnificent estate, Davencourt. There, she wanted for nothing—except to be loved by her cousin Webb. When he marries another, Roanna is devastated but life at Davencourt takes an even darker turn when Webb’s new wife is found bludgeoned to death.
After the shocking murder, Webb leaves for Arizona, abandoning the privileged life that he had once believed was all he wanted. Years later, a grown-up Roanna walks back into his life to bring him home. He’s shocked that the mischievous sprite he had known in childhood has disappeared. Gone, too, is her passionate fire; in its place is ice that melted at his touch but Webb can’t help but be drawn back to Davencourt, to Roanna, and to the killer that once destroyed his life and waits only for the chance to finish the job.
With Linda Howard’s signature “fast-paced, intricately detailed romantic suspense” (Fresh Fiction), Shades of Twilight will keep you riveted until the last page.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Family, loyalty, love, sex and revenge steam up the pages in this sometimes frustrating but ultimately satisfying romance set in present-day Alabama. Bestselling author Howard (After the Night) portrays orphan Roanna Davenport, born into a wealthy and aristocratic family. An awkward child, headstrong and generally disliked by her haughty relatives, she is championed by her older cousin Webb Tallant, with whom she falls in love. But he marries another cousin, the beautiful, heartless Jessie. When Jessie is murdered, Webb leaves the ancestral home for 10 years until the family's dying matriarch summons him back, reawakening old passions and reopening old wounds. Unnecessary bouts of crude sex between minor characters may put off some readers, and a good shaking seems in order for both Roanna and Webb, as they misinterpret each other's actions to excess. Howard does manage, however, to maintain tension through a twist-filled plot and the emotional involvement of the main characters.

Shades of Twilight
This is now my second favorite Linda Howard story. My favorite is still ‘The Girl left Behind.’ And I’ve lost count of how many of her books I’ve read.
Shades of Twilight
Very repetitive.
A must read!
Oh how I loved this book. I'd like to thank a friend of mine on Facebook Elle Boon for mentioning this book one day on line.
The book grabbed me from the first pages and wouldn't let go until the end. It has everything a good story needs. Great characters, alpha hero and strong heroin, suspense and a fabulous twist at the end. I've loved almost all of Linda Howard's books that I've read and this book is a perfect example of way she's a great author.
