The continuation of the Revenger series is a thrilling science-fiction adventure that makes the most of dramatic sibling rivalry. The fact that Adrana and Fura Ness are sisters doesn’t mean they share a moral compass; their clashing agendas power this pageturner. Author Alastair Reynolds turns up the heat, exploring Adrana’s simmering anguish at being enslaved by the pirate Bosa Sennen and Fura’s hunt for Bosa’s rumoured treasure. Unfurling at breakneck speed, Shadow Captain travels through the vastness of the universe.

Very good read
Terrific stuff. Enjoyed trying to figure out what “is” this universe and how it fits into our own.
Steam punk meets Heinlein.
First off: disclaimer. I am a Alastair Reynolds fan. Second disclaimer: I am sympathetic to science fiction as a genre. Having said that, the novel Shadow Captain was excellent. If you liked Revenger, you will enjoy Shadow Captain. These novels are not technical science fiction. The books read like science ficton if it was done by 17th century English pirates. However, it only enhances the novel. You have to get in the Alastair Reynolds groove and accept some given premises. If you can do that, then you will be delighted by Shadow Captain. I had to re-read Revenger to get myself primed for Shadow Captain but it was easily worth it. These are exceptional and excellent novels that you will have trouble explaining to you friends why you like them so much. It is science fiction for fans but, it you are thinking of reading this, then you already know that you have been waiting for a solid dose of excellent science ficton and this book really delivers.

I'm a huge Reynolds fan, and was hoping the very low quality of the first book was a fluke. Alas, it was no fluke. This one is even worse.
