Publisher Description
A young adult debut from internationally bestselling author Harlan Coben
Mickey Bolitar's year can't get much worse. After witnessing his father's death and sending his mom to rehab, he's forced to live with his estranged uncle Myron and switch high schools.
A new school comes with new friends and new enemies, and lucky for Mickey, it also comes with a great new girlfriend, Ashley. For a while, it seems like Mickey's train-wreck of a life is finally improving - until Ashley vanishes without a trace. Unwilling to let another person walk out of his life, Mickey follows Ashley's trail into a seedy underworld that reveals that this seemingly sweet, shy girl isn't who she claimed to be. And neither was Mickey's father. Soon, Mickey learns about a conspiracy so shocking that it makes high school drama seem like a luxury - and leaves him questioning everything about the life he thought he knew.
First introduced to readers in Harlan Coben's latest adult novel, Live Wire, Mickey Bolitar is as quick-witted and clever as his uncle Myron, and eager to go to any length to save the people he cares about. With this new series, Coben introduces an entirely new generation of fans to the masterful plotting and wry humor that have made him an award-winning, internationally bestselling, and beloved author.
Follow Mickey Bolitar on his next adventure in Seconds Away, coming out in Fall 2012!
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this suspenseful, well-executed spin off of his bestselling Myron Bolitar mystery series for adults, Coben introduces readers to Myron's nephew Mickey, a high school sophomore who is reluctantly living with his uncle after his father died in a car crash and his mother went into rehab. When Mickey's new girlfriend, Ashley, vanishes just weeks into the school year, Mickey attempts to find her. With the aid of new friends Spoon and Ema, Mickey discovers that everything he knew about Ashley was false, and the truth is fraught with danger. Simultan eous ly, he looks into the history of the enigmatic Bat Lady, a local recluse who claims to have knowledge of his father. As the two mysteries intertwine, Mickey learns more than he ever expected about those closest to him. While Mickey's voice is occasionally too sophisticated for his age, and he's a little too good to be true, it doesn't make this thriller any less enjoyable. Coben's semi-noir style translates well to YA, and the supporting cast is thoroughly entertaining. It's a strong start to the series. Ages 12 up.

Great read!
I know this book is intended for a young adult audience, but I thoroughly enjoyed it...and I am just about as far from a "young adult" as you can get. A gripping tale that doesn't leave many places to run to the fridge or get a full night's sleep - couldn't put it down. Looking forward to the obvious next episode. Was waiting for Win to come and save the day, but Micky develops his own resources. Ema was a delight, I am casting the movie in my head....it would be a big hit I think.
GREAT read!
I am most certainly no young adult, I've read hundreds of books, including most of Harlan Coben's. This, I can easily say, is one of my all time favorites. The only thing wrong with it is that it ended far too soon.
I have so many questions, and not from the usual holes in the plot. I want to know more about supporting characters. I want to know their stories. I guess that's for future stories and one can only hope for whole books about them I wanted Myron to be more involved, but then, this was Mickey's story.
Not just for young adults, but by all means, suitable.
Love it
Read this on a whim last fall, was thrilled to discover the Myron and Win duo. I read the entire series in the last year and then did a re-read of Shelter. I would love to see more of Myron and Win but can see that the torch has been passed to Mickey, Spoon and Ema. So looking forward to the next release.
