More than a century after a devastating war, the remnants of the U.S. are lorded over by General Redden, whose government persecutes Modified humans, people whose psychic abilities are the lingering result of a bioweapon. Among them is headstrong 20-year-old Wren Darlington, but she's unique in that her powers do not cause her veins to glow, allowing her to easily hide her abilities. After her adoptive father is captured and executed, Wren, who is known to be a sharp shooter, is conscripted into the program that trains the elite Silver Block soldiers, led by General Redden's son Cross, whom Wren both despises and is drawn to. When members of the Modified rebel Uprising reach out telepathically to Wren and insist she make it into the top tier special force as an operative for them, Wren is caught between her terror at being found out and her conviction that she's the best, all while unsuccessfully trying to stamp out her attraction to Cross. Francis expertly builds this high-stakes surveillance state and crafts beautifully flawed, emotionally complex characters. Readers will eagerly await the next installment.

The excerpt from the next book also got me excited
So embarrassing
This book is a rip of off like 3 other major romance novels and everyone talks like a tween. I’m not opposed to cussing in a book but they all use it in every sentence and it’s super cringey. All characters are the same, a bunch of plot holes and things that make ASBOLUTELY no sense whatsoever.
This book was ridiculous but I finished it. Just to let you know to save time and read something else if you are above the age of 18. I imagine this was written for 15-18 year olds.
If you’re Gen-Z this filled a calling
Amazing. As a 2001 girlie, it brought me back to when I was in middle school reading all of those dystopian series- the hunger games, divergent, even The Giver which my 7th grade teacher forced me to read- I ended up loving it. This book was the adult version of those with a twist of fantasy. It was the perfect fantasy-dystopian combo. Can’t wait for the second. Did I figure out some parts of the big reveal prior to actually reading it-yes, but I don’t care. I loved it!
