Customer Reviews
A rich, action packed and very entertaining story
With Spooked, the newest instalment of the Electi series, Ms. Noble surprises her readers with a lighthearted story that both meets and exceeds the expectations of her long time fans and entices the curiosity of new ones. The book has plenty of successful ingredients: it has captivating, three dimensional characters, a rich plot, the right amount of suspense and, last but not least, displays an accomplished and talented writing style.
The subtle irony that is typical of Ms. Noble’s style pervades the narration, making the book extremely enjoyable.
Spooked, like the previous instalment, Cursed, is not a typical “paranormal” book. Instead, the ghosts that populate the story are cameo characters that give life to a collection of hilarious and unpredictable situations.
Both protagonists, and the secondary characters, are well depicted and intriguing. Skilfully jotted at the beginning, their personality is gradually unraveled throughout the story, a fascinating discovery that makes the reader enjoy every single page.
Kimberly, the heroine, is introduced at the beginning of the book as a frilly wedding planner. As the plot develops, however, she demonstrates a quick mind and remarkable leadership skills. She is also kind hearted and selfless, taking risks and investing time and money trying to bring a serial killer to justice.
Reed is a peculiar knight in shining armour. An ex-military and ex-cop, his PI practice Is struggling to take off, despite him being smart and competent. Having paid all of his estranged sisters’ debts, he is broke and currently homeless. Despite his circumstances, he keeps up his spirit and doesn’t spends time feeling sorry for himself. Time and time again, he proves to be a fighter, always refusing to compromise his values and dignity. In addition to this, he is also generous, loving and protective towards the ones he cares for.
Rounding out the story, and adding depth to the narration, the book also contains a slate of vivid side characters, both human and not, that enrich and add extra layers to the tale.
In the end, Spooked is the perfect companion for a few hours of intellectually satisfying and relaxing entertainment. Just like many other of Ms. Noble's books, ever since I finished this last instalment, I simply can not wait to get my hands on the next one!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Opinions and comments are solely my own.
