NYPD sniper Matt Donovan is in Hell. Instead of driving his best friend's little sister home from college, he's stuck with her roommate—a fresh-faced ray-of-sunshine with a body that makes grown men weep. There's no way he'll allow himself to taint the little vixen, no matter how hard she tries to tempt him, so he resigns himself to the longest—and hardest—drive of his life.
Matt's obvious attraction suits grad student Lucy Mason just fine. She had no idea her brother's best friend was so deliciously hot. Knowing he'd never have his wicked way with his buddy's sister, she lies about her identity and seduces him. But Matt's no fumbling college boy. His desires run deep—and dark—and he wants to teach Lucy what wicked really means.
Matt's demanding appetites only make Lucy want more. But when her cover's blown, he's furious—even as his hunger for her becomes insatiable. Matt can't trust anyone, least of all himself. And he knows all too well that darkness always destroys the light…
Each book in the Line of Duty series is STANDALONE:
* Protecting What's His
* Officer Off Limits
* Asking for Trouble
* Staking His Claim
* Protecting What's Theirs
Love that it can be read as a stand alone
Lucy has graduated and is ready to start her adult life. Her brother sends his friend to pick her up from school and Lucy decides to lie to him and pretend that she is someone else. Matt is reluctant to interact with anyone because of his past, but this girl has his heart beating and his mind racing. Lucy has a very fun loving easy way and her humor with Matt is great. Even though this is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. Very good read!
Uncomfortable and disturbing, not sexy
I can’t believe I managed to finish this book - I wanted to quit several times. The male character is so mentally unhealthy and obsessive it brought to mind how a serial rapist or killer might think - his aggressiveness and overconfidence followed by intense insecurity, his confusion about his actions, his justifications, his self-talk... all so screwed up. NOT sexy or hot in a male character, no matter how many muscles he has. And the sex scenes feel anything but sexy, especially the farther in you read. They start off hot but quickly derail into uncomfortable and then just disturbing. Acting out faux rape scenes... ok, maybe, if pretending to fight off a guy is your thing... but the descriptions of the acts just seem somewhere between painful to physically damaging. I kept waiting for them to notice her bleeding at the end of every sex scene. And it will take a long time to get the awful image of the “impaling” scene, where he finally shows his “true self,” out of my head. Ugh - awful.
A really fantastic 5 star read! It is a book that I have re-read often. You will love all the characters as they are funny and relatable. You can't help but to fall in love with the story and Matt!
