IN THE MIRROR UNIVERSE . . .

Miles “Smiley” O’Brien struggles to hold together his weary band of freedom fighters in their war against the overwhelming might of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. Each day pushes the rebels on Terok Nor one step closer to defeat, but with nowhere left to run, the time has come to make their last stand.

Light-years away, Mac Calhoun and his Romulan allies harass Klingon forces with devious hit-and-run attacks. But Calhoun has a grander ambition: he intends to merge his fleet with the Terran Rebellion and lead it to victory—or die trying.

Meanwhile, a bitter feud threatens to shatter the Alliance from within. The old rivalry between the Klingons and the Cardassians erupts into open warfare as each vies for the upper hand in their partnership.

Manipulating events from its hidden redoubts, Memory Omega—the secret operation initiated by Spock a century earlier—sees its plans come to fruition sooner than expected. But striking early means risking everything—and if the revolution fails, Spock’s vision for the future will be lost forever.

Good but not great

Very enjoyable read. Nice conclusion to the series.

Spoilers.
The end is a little too pat. The arc after Emperor Spock’s death brought to conclusion in this novel is a little bit too much like Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy. Telepaths serve too much like a deus ex machina. Seen
M to be a lot stronger than they are in the Star Trek prime universe. And mentioning a Ireland has a country at the end raises a whole series of questions of the history of Mirror Mirror Earth. The Mirror Mirror countries would be the same as Star Trek universe prime Earth?

In a word: Epic!

Although a lot of the charm behind the mirror universe is it's chaos, an opposing representation of the original Star Trek Universe's characters and worlds, this novel builds on the difficult nascent ideals originally instilled behind Star Trek and how they could be conceived in the darkest realm of existence. Definitely a must read, and one that doesn't disappoint at any step along the way as characters from nearly the entire spectrum of the Star Trek Universe are brought on stage for an epic performance.
