Stands on its own, solid read
The first book of the Double Helix series is a quick, concise read. While it does seed the plot threads that will be relevant in the later books, for the most part it works well as a solo novel. My one complaint is that it wraps up very quickly and a few scenes don’t pay off. Overall it’s a fun read that takes place in TNG Season 1 and handles that time period well.
