A sexy, suspenseful standalone in the Second Shot Series . . .
When Dominic Fairmore left Oregon to be all he could be as an Army Ranger, he always knew he’d come back to claim Lily Greene. But after six years and three career-ending bullets, Dominic is battered, broken, and nobody's hero—so he stays away. Until he learns Lily has been the victim of a seemingly random attack. He’ll do anything to keep her safe . . . even go home.
Lily is starting to find a life without Dominic when suddenly her wounded warrior is home and playing bodyguard. But she refuses to play the part of a damsel in distress, no matter how much she misses his tempting touch. He’ll leave as soon as she’s safe and Lily knows her heart will never heal.
But as attraction stirs, danger closes in. With more than Lily’s heart at stake, can Dominic draw a line between protecting Lily and loving her?
This book is # 3 in the Second Shot series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. In order for the reader to have complete understanding for this relationship story, I recommend reading the series in order.
Dominic and Lily were an item for many years. He left to serve his country. He could not wait to get out of what he felt was the small town to no where. Now, he is back to help Lily. She no longer wants his help.
Lily survived a tragedy that would have ravaged a lesser woman. She doesn't want Dominic back on these terms. She wanted him to come to her on his own. Can they learn from their losses and love again? Only time will tell...
Such a hot and sweet read. I loved their story. I really enjoy how this series is all connected. Full of great and complicated characters. I cannot wait to read the next installment.

I love me some Sara Jane Stone! Her writing just pulls me in and grips tight. I love that she writes military inspired characters and she doesn’t just stick to men. She’s written several female characters who served in the military and are battling their own demons. In Stirring Attraction both the hero and the heroine are fighting to get back to some semblance of normal after their worlds are turned upside down. Each suffered their own tragedy while apart from each other. This one tugs at the heartstrings quite frequently. Dominic is having a hard time pulling himself back together after being severely injured while serving overseas. Lily was trying to move on after it seemed like Dominic was not going to be a part of his future, then she was brutally attached while on a jog. Watching them try to support each other and piece back some form of a friendship or relationship was tough. I found myself just wanting to yell at them to get over it and be happy together but obviously that wouldn’t have made for a very god book. lol Eventually of course they figure it out and realize that they need each other and can make it work.
Another huge perk for me is getting to revisit old characters and get to know current characters even better. I am super excited about the next book. I was so sad when Josh didn’t get his own story in the Independence Falls series, but it seems so fitting that his story comes in the Second Shot series. I hope Sara never runs out of characters and keeps writing more and more.
