Meet Caroline Madison, a C.I.A. operative who is deep undercover running the most powerful talent agency in Hollywood, The Agency. Using her Hollywood clout, CIA training and a network of undercover CIA operatives posing as actors, paparazzi and beyond, Caroline manipulates her celebrity clients to generate entertainment scandals that distract a gossip-hungry American public from political affairs. With the public preoccupied with celebrity news, the government is free to pursue its political agenda without pushback from its unwitting constituents.
Caroline successfully navigates her dual identity until one day, her personal life is thrust into the limelight and she becomes a victim of her own design. As her two worlds collide, Caroline struggles to salvage what’s left of her splintering identity in order to beat the system that created her.

A story about love and work, set in the worlds of Hollywood and the CIA
This isn't a novel about CIA training, nor is it a novel about how agents operate in Hollywood. This is the story of a woman named Caroline, and how she sacrifices identity, romance, and happiness all for the sake of her high powered career.
Godfred tells Caroline's story through prose that any lover of poetry, imagery, and strong language will admire. Every location in the novel is unique in its own colors, textures and smells, let alone the unique array of characters that bring humanity to the worlds of Hollywood and government. Beyond her vivid imagination that takes us on a fictional yet detailed ride through CIA training, Godfred presents Caroline's conflicts and growth in a way that anyone battling the confines of their career can relate to. Those of us who are attorneys or high powered businesspeople tend to comment on how our careers eat way at our spirits, Godfred takes this problem and amplifies it exponentially for Caroline, who is not only Hollywood's most powerful agent but simultaneously serving the United States CIA.
What's most enjoyable about this novel is that while at it's core it is a story of humanity, the polar opposite settings of the government and hollywood allow Godfred room to include discussion about everything from war and politics to Christian Louboutin heels and priceless bottles of champagne.
This is a book for lovers of literature, politics, fashion, hollywood and the human spirit. Godfred stops at nothing to entice every one of our senses AND interests. Do yourself a favor and read this one, it won't take long, and you will find yourself wishing Godfred wasn't a first time novelist so that you may be able to enjoy a little more of her writing.
Great read!
This was a great read. Perfect for the beach. The plot, the details of a Hollywood agency and the CIA kept me riveted until the end. I hope there is a new Melody Godfred book on the way.
Thriller, Page-Turner!
Once I picked up The Agency, I became hooked. I think I finished the book in 3 or 4 days, and after each read, I honestly couldn't wait to pick up where I left off. The Agency is very well written - I felt that I was able to imagine the scenes and the characters very clearly, and the story was truly thrilling...and it kind of makes you wonder about whether there is some connection between outlandish celebrity news and some governmental power trying to distract the masses. I have recommended this book to others and will continue to! A really great book to get wrapped up in!
