Publisher Description
This is a must to read novel!!
The story focuses on two children and a galley cook who are marooned on an island in the South Pacific after a shipwreck. The galley cook, named Paddy Button, assumes responsibility of the children and teaches them, among other things, how to behave and how to forage for food. He warns the children not to eat the "arita" berries, which he calls "the never-wake-up berries."
Two and a half years after they are marooned, Paddy dies during a drunken binge. The children, cousins Dicky and Emmeline Lestrange, survive on their resourcefulness and the bounty of their remote paradise. Years pass, and Dicky and Emmeline grow into physically mature young adults. They live in a self-constructed hut and spend their days fishing, swimming, diving for pearls and exploring the island.
Dicky and Emmeline begin to fall in love, although they do not realize it because of their ignorance of human sexuality. They are physically attracted to each other but don't understand or know how to express it. Ultimately, they make up after a fight and consummate their relationship. Stacpoole describes their sexual encounter as having "been conducted just as the birds conduct their love affairs. An affair absolutely natural, absolutely blameless, and without sin. It was a marriage according to Nature, without feast or guests."

Blue Lagoon with Brooke Shields Fan!
My favorite movie is Blue Lagoon, I love how it’s a somewhat depiction of Adam & Eve and they make lots of references to God. They’re unashamed of being naked, they fend for themselves and the idea of living on their own not belonging to civilization is a dreamy concept.
I watch the movie every year on my wedding anniversary and this year because I have reading one book a month on my goal list, I decided to choose the original story and the original author who wrote Blue Lagoon himself.
I did enjoy this book though I give it 4 stars because I have been brainwashed and accustomed to the movie with Brook Shields and prefer it over the original story. Lol.
It really wasn’t what I was expecting. I went in with the mindset that to not compare the movie to the book. Though, Stacpoole yaps quite a lot in all the details with many thoughts, it was quite loquacious.
Furthermore, there wasn’t much romance. It was vague when it came to Dick and Emmelines love story. It was heavily focused on other thoughts, analogies, side stories and comparisons. Which may be someone else’s thing to read.
I don’t regret reading though. I wanted to either way because I was so curious to see more and make more natural and spiritual connections. I didn’t get the romance details I was looking for though unlike the movie, I did appreciate there was more details to Paddy’s ending than the movie.
All in all… Thank you Stacpoole and Thank You Lord Jesus.
