USA TODAY BESTSELLER • In a charming cozy mystery series debut, Leslie Nagel’s irrepressible small-town heroine finds that her fellow book club members may be taking their Agatha Christie a bit too literally—and murder a bit too lightly.
Charley Carpenter has poured heart and soul into her clothing store, Old Hat Vintage Fashions. She’ll do anything to make it a success—even join the stuffy Agathas Book Club in order to cultivate customers among the wealthy elite of Oakwood, Ohio.
Although mixing with the most influential women in town has its advantages, Charley finds the endless gossip a high price to pay. But after two women with close ties to the Agathas are brutally murdered, everyone falls under threat—and suspicion. When key evidence indicates that both murders are the work of the same hand, Charley realizes that the killer has arranged each corpse in perfect imitation of crime scenes from the Club’s murder mystery reading list. She uses her membership in the Club to convince Detective Marcus Trenault to use her as an inside informant. Not that he could stop her anyway.
Intelligent, fearless, and every bit as stubborn as Marc is, Charley soon learns the Agathas aren’t the only ones with secrets to protect. Passions explode as she and Marc must race against time to prevent another murder. And if Charley’s not careful, she may find herself becoming the killer’s next plot twist.

Book Themed Murders
The Book Club Murder is the first book by Leslie Nagel so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was a wonderful story that was cozy mystery mixed with romantic suspense. This is the first book in a new series The Oakwood Mystery series. This is a standalone with no cliffhanger, though it is open-ended for future books in the series. There is described violence, this is a murder mystery after all.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. The author did a great job of explaining and describing the characters and the town. I loved the idea of the theme staged murder scenes and the aptly named book club. There are a lot of clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. And they continue to keep coming until the end of the book. It definitely kept me riveted. I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down.
I look forward to reading more of Leslie Nagel's books. I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Loved it
I don’t remember how I stumbled on this mystery but I’m so glad I did!
I loved the main character, nosy Oakwood shop owner Charley (Charlotte) Carpenter, her BFF, Frankie, and her wheelchair bound dad and his caregiver, Lawrence.
She’s bright, inquisitive and — dare I say? — spunky. When members of the Agatha Book Club that she and Frankie belong to start dying, Charley is like a dog looking for a buried bone, tireless and determined to solve the mystery.
And she does, but not before getting in the way of a hunky Oakwood detective and annoying and angering a lot of people.
If you like cozy mysteries you will like this book which has a lot to recommend it. It’s well written, its characters are three dimensional, they have believable emotions and there’s even a nice little romance blossoming amidst the murders!
The Book Club Murders
I loved this book. Kept me so engrossed with characters and different murders following themes of mystery books I have read I did not go in back to see how it ended.
Would recommend it to every mystery reader especially Agatha Christy fans.
