At the start of Carlisle's enjoyable 13th Bibliophile mystery (after 2018's Buried in Books), bookbinder Brooklyn Wainwright Stone and her husband, Derek Stone, a former MI6 agent, are honeymooning in Paris. On their last day, they tour the bookstalls along the Seine, where Brooklyn decides to buy a copy of Ian Flemings's The Spy Who Loved Me as a gift for Derek, who, like James Bond, "is dashing, sexy, brave, and daring." Back home in San Francisco, Derek reconnects with Owen Gibbons, a friend who used to work for a U.S. intelligence agency and now owns a spy shop called SPECTRE. Owen persuades Derek to loan him the Bond novel, which turns out to be a valuable first edition, for a special display commemorating the shop's first anniversary. The trouble begins when someone breaks into the shop and tries to steal the book. A related murder is somehow connected to Derek's past. Book lovers and Bond fans won't want to miss this cozy.

James Bond, escape rooms and murder. What more can a reader ask for? Kate Carlisle has written another fun and fast-paced Bibliophile Mystery with The Book Supremacy. Brooklyn and Derek have just returned to San Francisco after a Parisian honeymoon. An old friend of Derek’s has opened a spy shop near their apartment, complete with surveillance gear, James Bond novels and escape rooms.
It is all fun and games until one of the employees ends up dead. Then the real adventure begins. It is up to Brooklyn, Derek and a cast of interesting characters to solve the murder.
I enjoy this series because of the well-drawn characters and book collecting tidbits that pop up throughout the series. For a fun and well-constructed mystery, give The Book Supremacy a try.
Fun, Fast and Engaging Read
Another great addition to the series. The characters continue to be fun and engaging, they pull you in make you feel like you are part of the action. The authors descriptions of Brooklyn’s bookbinding always make me want to take a class and try it out. This installment starts out with Brooklyn and Derek on their honeymoon in Paris where the foundations for the mystery are laid out. The action then continues back home in San Francisco. You can definitely read this as a stand alone, but if you haven’t read the series I highly recommend it.
Fast paced new book mystery!
This is the 13th (!!!) installment in The Bibliophile Mysteries series by Kate Carlisle. Hard to believe it but I’ve been reading one of these each June since I devoured the first eight in 2014. The series followers Brooklyn, a rare book restoration expert, and Derek, her husband (!), who is a former MI6 agent. They live in San Francisco and frequent visit Brooklyn’s quirky family in Sonoma wine country. Each book in the series features a rare book and a homicide (or two), with Brooklyn, Derek, Inspector Lee and others always cracking the case. The Book Supremacy was very fast paced and I really enjoyed reading it. The plot was well developed and held my attention through the end. It was wonderful to finally have Derek and Brooklyn married and enjoying life - and solving another case together! It was also great to learn more about Derek’s work in this book. If you are looking for a great series to read by the pool this summer, highly recommend you head to your local library and check these out! The Book Supremacy hits shelves on June 4! (I received a free copy of this book, and this is a completely honest review.)
