The Dead Are Sleeping
Tom lives a calm life as a geology professor. Then he witnesses a meteor shower that changes the world. Soon, he finds himself tapping into a more rugged and survivalist part of his psyche. In so doing, he finds his inner paternal side and tries to rescue others from ever increasing danger. But how can they survive when he whole world is falling apart around them and they keep discovering new dangers?
I've read a few offerings by Paul Westwood. His stories intrigue me and he does well at describing terrifying creatures. However, this particular book needed an editor. So many typos and misused words filled this one that they almost obscured plot holes involving lengths of marriage and how some characters survived injuries that killed most other injured parties, unless medicine was used that these survivors didn't have. (Trying to avoid spoilers. Sorry so cryptic.) Anyway, the story was good enough to keep me slogging through the mess, but how much more enjoyable the read would have been without that slog.
