Great Story
This is the first installment in the “Lady Marigold’s Matchmaking Service” series. If this is any indication of what the series has to offer, I cannot wait for the next book.
Miss Catharina Sagewick father arranges a marriage for her with a man she knows she could never marry. She takes drastic measures to ensure this doesn’t happen. Unfortunately, my stealing her potential mother-in-law’s pearls she has ruined her good name and any chance of a worthy marriage prospect.
Her father places her in the care of Lady Marigold’s Matching Service. Catharina meets Gideon, Lord Hainsley, who is seeking a wife with a spotless reputation. He is trying to recover a painting that his father owned but sold with a good faith arrangement that he could but it back. Now with both his father and Lord Callingswell deceased he tries to buy it back from his son. Unfortunately, Lord Callingswell refuses to honor the prior agreement, he claims the picture and treasure are his to claim. Gideon recklessly tries to “borrow” the picture but caught and is accused of stealing the picture and his reputation is ruined.
We now have two disgraced members of the ton that team up to solve the mystery and recover the treasure. There is also misunderstandings between them. Catharina thinks he is an adventure seeking man and he thinks she is a lady thief. The antics they undertake to temporarily borrow clues to solve the mystery were hilarious. I was cheering for these two “thieves” to solve the mystery and realize they were perfect for each other.
This was an absolutely fabulous, delightful, funny, entertaining and romantic book, I truly enjoyed it start to finish! I won a free copy of this book from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily, all thought and opinions are my own.
Cute Mystery and Romance
Believing her to be a master thief, Gideon recruits Catharina to help him retrieve a painting and solve the clues connected with it to find a treasure. Both have been caught stealing at a Ton event. She did it specifically to get caught and escape a betrothal. It was the only time she did it, but in the Ton reputation is everything. Their search for the clues becomes an adventure, and they fall in love with each other. The problem is learning to trust each other. Will they put the clues together to find the treasure? Will they learn to trust each other and grab the real treasure? An entertaining and fun story with a mystery, a bit of danger, and a happy ending.
