Publisher Description
1881—Special Agent Gillian Hamilton is a magic caster with the Federal Bureau of Magic and Steam. He's sent to Shallow Grave, Arizona, to arrest a madman engineer known as Tinkerer, who's responsible for blowing up half of Baltimore. Gillian has handled some of the worst criminals in the Bureau's history, so this assignment shouldn't be a problem. But even he's taken aback by a run-in with the country's most infamous outlaw, Gunner the Deadly.
Gunner is also stalking Shallow Grave in search of Tinkerer, who will stop at nothing to take control of the town's silver mines. Neither Gillian nor Gunner are willing to let Tinkerer hurt more innocent people, so they agree to a very temporary partnership.
If facing illegal magic, Gatling gun contraptions, and a wild engineer in America's frontier wasn't enough trouble for a city boy, Gillian must also come to terms with the reality that he's rather fond of his partner. But even if they live through this adventure, Gillian fears there's no chance for love between a special agent and outlaw.

EXCITING!!
CS Poe has created a brand new world of steampunk, magic and the old west. “The Engineer” is fast paced, with plenty of action, adventure and danger.
As we’re swept away to 1881 Shallow Grave, Arizona we find Agent Gillian Hamilton a magic caster with the Federal Bureau of Magic and Steam. Gillian is an expert at catching some of the worst criminals around and has an outstanding ability in the magic arena. He’s a little reserved, charming and a little lonely. He’s on a mission to catch the evil villain Tinkerer whose looking to empty out the Shallow Graves silver mines.
Someone else has got it out for Tinkerer too. Gunner, he’s a very skilled gunslinger, vigilante and a rogue all rolled into one.
Gillian and Gunner have a little friction between them. But they find teaming up and combining their skills benefits them both in hunting down Tinkerer.
CS Poe definitely teases the reader with the connection and banter that Gillian and Gunner have between them. I knew this was a novella going in, so yes it was short. When I got to the end, I wanted more. Now I’m totally invested and I definitely have to watch for the next book “The Gangster”.
The Good, The Bad and Magic
The Engineer by C.S. Poe was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Agent Gillian Hamilton, a high level caster, was sent to Arizona to find the Engineer who was casting illegal magic. Gunner the Deadly, showed up in Arizona to help the small town from destruction of the Engineer. When Gillian and Gunner meet, Gillian agrees to work with Gunner to help take down the madman and his deadly toys. What he didn’t expect was for him to fall for a wanted and deadly man like Gunner. I enjoyed this book especially when it was my first foray into steampunk. It took me a few minutes to wrap my head around all the different aspects but C.S. Poe weaves a magic of her own with her storytelling that I was completely immersed. I am looking forward to the next installment.
