Publisher Description
Robert McCammon's first contemporary novel in nearly two decades, The Five tells the story of an eponymous rock band struggling to survive on the margins of the music business.
As they move through the American Southwest on what might be their final tour together, the band members come to the attention of a damaged Iraq war veteran, and their lives are changed forever. This is a riveting account of violence, terror, and pursuit set against a credible, immensely detailed rock and roll backdrop. It is also a moving meditation on loyalty and friendship.
Written with wit, elegance, and passionate conviction, The Five reaffirms McCammon's position as one of the finest, most unpredictable storytellers of our time.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
McCammon (Mister Slaughter) delivers a complex, mind-blowing story of a rock band's last days. The Five rage-filled frontman Nomad, lesbian drummer Berke, retro-inspired keyboardist Terry, self-possessed bassist Mike, and mellow vocalist/guitarist Ariel are winding down a tour in the Southwest. Both Terry and their manager want out, so this looks to be their last tour. Inspired by a chance meeting with a mysterious woman, they decide to write one final song as a team. What they don't know is that an unstable ex-Marine is stalking them, driven to assassinate them all. After he kills a band member, the remaining four of the Five dodge from gig to gig, pawns in a supernatural struggle far beyond their comprehension. Steeped in rock history, infused with power and passion, and laced with psychological horror and razor-sharp tension, this is not an easy read, but a memorable one.
Customer Reviews
What an excellent read!
Robert McCammon has written quite the amazing novel here with 'The Five'.
A nail-biting work of harrowing Suspense, as well as a studied love song to all the Rock Bands and musicians who have embellished and augmented our lives from The 60's to the present day.
I'm writing this review as a working professional musician, as well as a Horror/Suspense fan.
The Five has it All!
It really Is McCammon's finest hour, perhaps even better than his award winning novel, 'Boys Life'.
The Five sings and flows like a finely tuned Rock Opera. Beautifully written, and passionate as all get-out.
Having toiled in the fields of the LA music scene myself, I was amazed by how realistically McCammon captured the highs, lows, and craziness of the music industry.
I really couldn't recommend a book more. An excellent novel.
Love Roberts writing
I have read all his books... This was the last.
It was not good. I am such a fan so this was a very disappointing purchase. I cannot believe the author I live so much had anything to do with this book. It was all filler. Chapters of pointless statistics and off tangent writing.
Very disappointing. I would never recommend this book.
I have had such a great love of his other writing. I have no idea who this writer is.
One of my favorite
I like this book and if you love rock and roll and suspense you will like it also.
