A group of likable rogues race to stop the universe collapsing in Dewes's gripping space opera debut, whose premise will put readers in mind of A Song of Ice and Fire's Night's Watch. Ships stripped of their engines line the edge of the universe, staffed by the Sentinels, court-martialed Legion soldiers sent to guard the Divide in case the hostile alien Viators return. Cavalon Mercer, a rebellious royal heir, becomes the only civilian among them when he's stripped of his titles and sent to the Argus to serve under stoic war hero Adequin Rake. Sharply pointed descriptions pepper Dewes's prose as Cavalon faces the soldiers' hostility over his family's background in eugenics, and an investigation into a suspected sensor error reveals that the Divide is collapsing. Failing communication systems compel Rake to send a group to the nearest jump gate to warn the Legion and request evacuation transports, but the gate is mysteriously abandoned when they arrive. Meanwhile, those aboard the Argus experience some delightfully strange temporal anomalies as the Divide races inward. Dewes fluidly interweaves complex worldbuilding with a fast-moving plot and satisfying character development in Cavalon and Rake. This should win many fans.

Void, that was worth the read!
Very creative. Enjoyed the sci-fi tech. I feel there’s something missing when it comes to the Viator War. Why would such an intelligent species want to wipe out the human race? Maybe I missed something or it will be covered in the sequel? We’ll see. Def worth chk out. I’m sure it will be a Netflix Original one day. So, read it before they ruin it!
Holy moly
That was the fastest, best ride through the outer core that’s ever been written. This is an absolute romp, and I couldn’t put it down.
Decent writing mediocre content
The author can write. There is drama and stuff, and plot.
But the science fiction is hot garbage. The females are presumably well written. The males are just females. They read as false to me. The book could have done with editing. "Plasmic welder"? It’s just a plasma torch and we already have them. The space ship got to max speed? Ah no. That is not physics. Something stops and starts accelerating towards you. You have time to run around and escape. But it keeps accelerating and you need ship engines maxed to avoid it. Then a day or more later after more acceleration there is time to once again escape it on foot? That makes no sense.
The writing skill is good. The content lacks that. For me it just yanks me right out of suspension of disbelief.
