The Magic Word

This is an entertaining story that tells of how the magical powers of reading can make magic happen in your life. It's great for bedtime and storytelling. A puppet magician gets a brand new magic word. He's excited because all of his magic words have been used and hand-me-downs. When it arrives there is a problem. His new magic word is broken. He calls and reports his problem to The Alphabet Corporation. They replace his broken magic word with a brand new magic phrase. Now he is really excited. Every magician knows that a magic phrase is much better than a magic word. He receives his new magic phrase and for the rest of the day he uses his brand new magic phrase “I Love Myself, I Love Myself, I Love Myself, I Love to READ” to do what he loves doing, making magic. The morale of the story is that you can make magic happen in your life by reading everyday, loving yourself and using your new magic phrase. Be patient and magic will begin to happen in your life.

The magic phrase is a positive verbal affirmation wrapped in fun. Use this story as a child development tool by finding consistent, FUN and creative ways to build child ownership and child use of the affirmation. For example, one parent, after completing the bedtime story, started saying the magic phrase during breakfast out loud to herself in front of her preschooler. After the third day, her preschooler started joining in. After a few weeks the child started started saying the magic phrase on his own and would receive a hug from the mom as a sort of reward. Soon, it was a breakfast and bedtime ritual. To break down the psychology of verbal affirmations, if you tell yourself something long enough, you'll begin to believe it.
