Tells the story of salesman Gregor Samsa who wakes one morning to find himself inexplicably transformed into a gigantic, incredibly disgusting bug.

The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repelled by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become.

The novella has been widely discussed among literary critics, with differing interpretations being offered.
