CBS NEW YORK BOOK CLUB PICK • Daphne and Amber Parrish are thrust back into each other’s lives upon the resurgence of a long-forgotten threat, forcing a vicious game of cat and mouse where everything is on the line.
Amber Patterson Parrish has come a long way. Hard work and immaculate planning turned her from invisible wallflower to prominent socialite, though there have been bumps along the way. Less than a year after her husband Jackson’s tax-evasion scandal, Amber reigns supreme over the Bishops Harbor community. But with Jackson being released from prison, Amber’s free time—and money—is vanishing.
Meanwhile, Daphne Parrish left Bishops Harbor after her divorce from Jackson, swearing she would never go back. But when one of her daughters runs away from home, desperate to see her father, Daphne agrees to return for the summer for their daughters’ sake. Jackson swears he’s a changed man, but Daphne knows all too well that he can’t be trusted.
When a ghost from Amber’s past emerges looking for revenge, these three figures find unlikely allies in one another. But who is playing who? When all is said and done, they’ll have to fight tooth and nail for everything they have left in this zero-sum game.
With shocking turns and entertaining characters, The Next Mrs. Parrish will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about duplicity and betrayal.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Dueling wives of a rich manipulator form the bitter backbone of this fast-paced and twisty domestic thriller. With her husband in jail for tax fraud, Amber, the second wife of super-wealthy Jackson Parrish, is desperate to hold on to her new social status—even if it means crossing legal lines and reawakening both of their sordid pasts. But when Jackson’s first wife, Daphne, unwillingly brings her daughters back to the East Coast to reconcile with their father, Amber sees her chance, and the Parrishes form a tricky triangle of alliances, deception, and revenge. Author Liv Constantine expertly balances the various narratives in these sordidly twisted relationships. Alternating between characters—including a mysterious newcomer, the beautiful Daisy Ann—she ramps up the stakes, slowly revealing each one’s deepest secrets, which include murder. The Next Mrs. Parrish had us rooting for both the good girl and her nasty nemesis in this delicious, unputdownable treat.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this wicked sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish, bestseller Constantine (the pseudonym of sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine) resumes the scandalous story of Jackson Parrish, his scheming second wife, Amber, and his ex-wife, Daphne. At the outset, Jackson is completing a prison term for tax evasion, but he's yet to answer for his darker deeds, including fraudulently committing Daphne to a mental asylum. Daphne has found peace after divorcing Jackson and fleeing across the country, but when her children insist on seeing their father, she's forced to return to ritzy Bishops Harbor, Long Island. There, she readies herself to confront Amber, her ruthless replacement as Jackson's wife. Meanwhile, Daisy Ann Briscoe, the daughter of one of Amber's prior conquests, launches a revenge campaign after running into Amber at a New York City trunk show. Daisy Ann's rampage poses trouble for Jackson and Daphne as well, locking them and Amber in an uneasy alliance that's inevitably threatened by a slew of double-crossings. Constantine lays the glamour and nastiness on thick, resulting in an acidic thriller that delights with every twist of the knife. Fans of the first book will eat this up.
Customer Reviews
Hmmm ending stressed me out
I loved the turns and twist but the cliff hanger at themed is aggravating. I read 3 books to get to this point and it’s still not over!
Great read
Loved the first and loved the second!!
Decent for a sequel
The book was decent. The first book was one of my favorite novels. What was lacking from the follow up was the huge surprise reveal…my favorite part of the first book was halfway through finding out that Jackson was hideously abusive and Daphne was helping engineer him getting together with Amber all along. It was a delicious twist. This sequel didn’t have that big reveal moment. Also, the ending felt really rushed. All of a sudden it was like…what just happened?!
