Much better for kids than today's literature
Ballantyne wrote adventure novels for kids in the latter half of the 19th C. They are written from a Christian worldview. It may come as a surprise that the Christian faith was carried to the rest of the world the hope of improving people's lives and their conduct with their families and neighbors.
Ballantyne respects cultures, and we can often get a peek into those cultures from his books. His historical fiction is much better than a dry history book.
Ballantyne loved people and the variety of people God made. His purpose in writing is to show us where and how the spreading of the Gospel has changed people for better.
