Publisher Description
Tychon Damiano was minding his own business when disaster struck. Of course, since his business was buying and selling stolen goods, disaster was not entirely unexpected. What was unexpected for him was waking up in a palace full of servants and high tech gadgets, including a virtual girlfriend. It's all very pleasant except for one little problem: Ty can't leave. Just about the time he discovers that a real woman is vastly superior to the virtual kind, some truly alarming nightmares start to haunt his sleep. Ty learns to play chess from a master, but he begins to suspect he's part of a much bigger game.

SO good!
If you've read The Sixth Discipline and No Safe Haven, you will love The Nostalgia Gambit - this is actually one of my favorites from this author. Buxton's work is consistent throughout all of her novels; the different worlds and technology are developed so carefully and thoroughly that each novel easily pulls the reader into the storyline. Tychon takes the reader through his misunderstood past, his confusing present, and his cloudy future - all spiraling out of his control when all he wants to do is figure out who he really is. When Tychon is taken captive as a thief, he is thrown into a very political spectrum - one could say a very political game - in a very different world. A chess game can easily symbolize the complex storyline, and, in a way, the main character seems to be a pawn throughout the book. The storyline is packed with well thought out concepts and unsuspected twists; it's definitely a great story of science fiction that many will appreciate if they are looking for some fresh SciFi ideas. I highly recommend it!
