PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
A melodramatic plot full of improbable developments mars Preston and Child's 16th thriller featuring FBI agent Aloysius Pendergast (after 2015's Crimson Shore). Pendergast is believed dead after he was seriously wounded and fell into the sea off Exmouth, Mass. Soon after Pendergast's ward, Constance Greene, returns from Exmouth, she's abducted from the Manhattan home she shared with the FBI agent. Proctor, Pendergast's factotum, embarks on a lengthy and convoluted quest to rescue Constance, which takes him to the Kalahari Desert. Proctor's resolve is strengthened by his belief that Constance's abductor is Pendergast's evil brother, Diogenes, who was thought to have died after Constance tossed him into a volcano more than three years earlier. Meanwhile, a sophisticated villain who maintains a secret identity believes that his DNA at a crime scene won't be matched to a sample in the FBI database because that sample will also be a match for his alias. This entry lacks the originality and chills of the better books in this bestselling series.

Spoilers!!! I loved the book and seems it’s 50/50 with many
So I feel the need to review it because I see the reviews here are sort of split. Don’t read further if you don’t want to get any spoilers please. The people seem upset because of someone from the past is revisiting and it seems many did not like this character. I can’t say many. Seems others do like that character. I do. It provides such a nice dynamic between that person and Pendergast. I really didn’t think this person would return. I don’t mind that somehow they came back and beat the impossible ending they had a while back. I like twists like this. It’s weird but I do hope the two can reconcile. I hope the person changes for the better but then it wouldn’t be a real Pendergast struggle now would it? I’m curious to find out where this goes. I hope it has more to do with Constance and who’s at the monastery. Dammit A.P. Missing his shots !!! What a disappointment but what ever happened to Viola? She was done dirty too lol she just never returned after A.P. Was having drug problems ? Rip.
Obsidian Chamber
Loved this book! Pendergast is a wonderful character.....his brother and Constance are extremely interesting and mysterious, I do hope they will be back in future books!
Sad it’s over 😢
What can I say, I love the Pendergast series. I’m really thrilled that the authors brought back to life the brother of Special Agent Pendergast, Diogenes Pendergast, who is just too fascinating to despise. I am always glad to find myself in that strange Riverside mansion having jasmine tea with Constance and Aloysius.
