Editorial Review:

Five Stars

The Roilden Stones of Elf Mountain by Anna del C. Dye is another tale of the Elf kingdom with a very satisfying conclusion. I have to be careful of spoilers, because I’d really like to tell you all about this story, but too much information will give away too much of the fun. If you've read other books in this series (Shahira and the Flying Elfs, Royal Elfs of Abalon, Elfs of the Conquered Realm), you will once again meet some old friends from those tales. The world of Andoriah, shared by Elfs, Gnomes, Wizards, and others, is suffering mercilessly from two years of hot, dry weather, caused by the evil wizard, Bogeum. He has stolen the Roilden Stones, which hold the magic responsible for maintaining balance in the land. Only by recapturing and returning those Roilden Stones can the Elfs and Gnomes hope for rain and cool nights to return to the land. But Bogeum is not about to just roll over and let the stones out of his hands. He creates, with his magic, an army of men made of solid rock to foil the plans to restore those stones to their rightful place. However, Lanteon, a good wizard, has placed a spell on the weapons of the Elfs and Gnomes so that their swords and knives would destroy each rock monster they encountered, turning them to dust. But who is the Mysterious Warrior following our heroes?

The Roilden Stones of Elf Mountain is not dependent upon previous books, and can be read as a standalone tale. I would suggest, however, that you consider reading at least the three books I’ve listed above for two reasons: 1) some of the same characters appear in this tale; and 2) they’re all good books! This story, like the others, is well written. Descriptions of the land let you smell the dry soil, feel the thorny bushes, and sweat from the overbearing heat. Dye makes it very easy to like the “good guys” and dislike the “bad guys” in this tale, but in a surprising move one of the “bad guys” decides to return to being a “good guy” before the story ends. The Roilden Stones of Elf Mountain begins with a fierce battle against overwhelming odds, and ends with a series of weddings. In between lies an exciting tale.
