My dreams of making it to the big league had finally come true,
But one wild night in a strip club which was clearly a mistake
Landed me squarely on the team's bad boy list.
The PR manager is supposed to smooth it all over,
Too bad all I wanted was to get in trouble with her.
I wasn't really the playboy they thought I was,
I just needed to find the right woman to set me straight.
Now I just have to prove I'm not what she thought.
I have the career I've always dreamed of,
Even if I have to deal with players who can't seem to keep out of the news.
What's more infuriating is the one player I want to hate the most I can't stop thinking about.
The one whose voice makes me want to drop my panties at his feet.
I know all about his playboy ways,
But I also know the press can spin things to fit their narrative.
Is he really as innocent as he claims to be? Or will he throw a screw ball I never saw coming?
“Your one liners won’t work on me.”
I love the Indianapolis Lightning series by Samantha Lind and her latest book “The Screw Ball” centers around Lucas, their newest rookie and Carmen, the team's PR manager, whose job it was to clean up after Lucas’s many social indiscretions. Carmen and Lucas are both close to their families which is an important aspect of all of Ms. Linds’s books. I love Carmen and her enthusiasm for her job, her desire to give back to the community with the family event and the fact that she doesn’t take any lip from the players who act out in public. Lucas didn’t seem like the kind of guy she would date but she was impressed when he immediately agreed to visit a teenage fan in the hospital. Lucas had a busy baseball schedule but when his sister needed him he dropped everything to help her, because family always came first. Lucas knew early on that he was in love with Carmen and he made sure to always show her that he was serious about his feelings for her. As they spent more time together, Carmen saw his softer side especially when it came to spending time with his cute nephew. Carmen was a stickler for the rules and wasn’t sure she should be dating a player but as she got to know Lucas, she realized she could trust him and appreciated his honesty. Even though Lucas came on strong with his feelings for her, Carmen was flattered by all the attention and they always had fun together. She hoped that she wasn’t rushing into anything when it came to Lucas. Carmen knew how easily players can be convinced to party and act irresponsibly and she prayed that Lucas wouldn’t fall into that trap again.
